Iraqi National Assembly Legislates Banning Normalization of Relations with Israel
Xinhua News Agency, Baghdad, May 26 (Reporter Fan Shuai Shuai Dong Yalei) The Iraqi National Assembly passed a bill on the 26th to criminalize the normalization of relations with Israel.
The Iraqi National Assembly issued a statement on the same day that the 275 members who attended the meeting voted unanimously to support the bill.The statement pointed out that the bill aims to uphold the consistent position of the Iraqi people in supporting Palestine and its people.
According to the terms of the bill published by local media, government officials, government agencies and the media are not allowed to establish any relationship with the Israeli side.Violators are subject to severe penalties, which can result in life imprisonment or the death penalty.
Under the coordination of the United States, since 2020, the four Arab countries of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco have successively announced the normalization of relations with Israel.Previously, only two Arab countries, Egypt and Jordan, had established diplomatic relations with Israel.
