How to pay attention to the expiration date of medicines?
The validity period of a drug refers to the period during which a drug can maintain its quality under certain storage conditions.Each drug has a corresponding expiration date, so be sure to keep the drug packaging. There are several ways to express the expiration date of a drug, as shown in the figure below.
For the validity period of opened medicines, ophthalmic preparations can be stored for 4 weeks after opening, ointments can be stored for 2 months after opening, traditional Chinese medicine decoctions can be stored refrigerated for 7 days after opening, 3 days at room temperature, and syrups can be stored for 3 months in winter after opening. Save 1 month in summer.
Drug storage conditions are required
After getting the medicine, you should first pay attention to the storage conditions of the medicine on the instruction manual, whether it is stored in a dark, sealed, dry, cool (≤20°C), and cold place (2-10°C).Children's medicines must be kept out of children's reach to avoid accidental ingestion.
Drug recycling and cleaning should be correct
Expired/deteriorated medicines and health products contain chemical components, heavy metals, etc., which are different from general garbage and cannot be directly thrown into the trash can. They should be sent to the local designated unit for recycling expired medicines or designated recycling bins for recycling.The remaining drugs used for narcotic drug patches and first-class psychotropic drugs shall be returned to the medical institution, and the medical institution shall destroy and dispose of them in accordance with regulations.
If the original packaging is damaged, be sure to re-label the name of the drug, indications, usage and dosage, and expiration date.The family medicine box should be checked and replaced regularly, and the medicine box should be checked every 3 to 6 months, and the medicines that exceed the expiration date should be replaced in time.
