Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has announced that it will launch a new parental monitoring tool in Ireland on June 30.

The features, which debuted in the U.S. in March, will allow parents and guardians to monitor their teens’ accounts, set limits on their daily spending time onInstagram, and schedule specific breaks.

They will also be able to see who their teens are following and who they are following, and can also see more information when their teens report accounts or posts.

Yuan said it is also rolling out new features to help teens better manage their time onInstagram.

"In Ireland and the UK, we are now testing our new nudge feature, which will encourage teens to switch to different topics if they view the same type of content over and over while exploring," the company said in a statement.

"This push is designed to encourage teens to discover new things and to exclude certain topics that may be related to appearance comparisons," the statement said.

Last year, The Wall Street Journal reported that internal research conducted by Instagram's parent company found that the photo-sharing platform can have devastating effects on mental health and body image, especially for teenage girls.

Yuan also announced today a new parental supervision tool for its virtual reality quest headset.

These settings will give parents and guardians more control over teens' screen time and the apps they download and purchase.
