According to the latest forecast from the Provincial Meteorological Observatory, in the coming week, there will still be many showers, thunderstorms, and local hail and other strong convectiveweatherin our province .Why is there frequent severe convective weatherin our province recently?
Severe convectiveweatherrefers to the disastrous weather that occurs suddenly, has severe weather changes, and is extremely destructive, often accompanied by strong convection such as thunderstorms, gale, hail, tornadoes, and short-term heavy precipitation.
Wang Chao, director of the Science and Technology and Forecasting Division of the Provincial Meteorological Bureau, introduced that since mid-June, high-altitude cold vortices have frequently appeared, and the water vapor supply is mainly concentrated in the Jianghuai region, which is conducive to the occurrence of strong convective weather. The subtropical high in Xishicheng experienced its second seasonal northward jump in the second half of mid-July. Affected by the subtropical and tropical warm and humid air currents, the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River and North China experienced peak periods of thunderstorms and strong winds. In August, as the ridge line of the subtropical high moved northward, the short-wave trough was active frequently, and North China and Northeast China entered a period of concentrated rainfall.Strong convective weather is prone to occur in our province from June to August, and short-term heavy precipitation occurs.
"The high-altitude cold vortex is the main factor causing this severe convective weather process." Wang Chao said that because the cold vortex is relatively stable, similar weather can repeat for several days.
The Provincial Meteorological Observatory predicted that from the 4th to the 5th, the province will be cloudy, with showers and thunderstorms in most areas. On the 6th, the province was cloudy, with showers and thunderstorms in the central and eastern parts of the province, and moderate to heavy rain in parts of the southeastern part of the country. From the 7th to the 8th, it was cloudy in the east and south, with scattered showers and thunderstorms. On the 9th, it was cloudy and cloudy in the north and west, with showers and thunderstorms in some areas; cloudy in other areas, with showers and thunderstorms in some areas.
Wang Chao said that strong convective weather has the characteristics of strong randomness in time and space, and it is difficult to be captured by conventional meteorological observation networks. At present, my country has established a short-term nowcasting system for severe convective weather, and is working hard to explore and overcome this worldwide problem.
Strong convective weather is unpredictable and destructive, and the best defense is to avoid it in time.Once the severe convective weather-related warning issued by the Meteorological Observatory is received, corresponding preventive measures should be taken and must not be taken lightly.
