According to a report from Thailand.com, China's Mohan port has suspended imports of Thai durians for three days from April 12 to 14 due to the detection of the new crown virus in a container of durian imported from Thailand.Although traffic has been resumed a few days ago, the Thai side still attaches great importance to this, speeding up discussions on remedial measures and adopting stricter "zero new crown" measures.
On April 13, the Governor of Chanthaburi Province, Thailand's Durian Prefecture, signed and released the measures for the prevention and control of the new crown for fruit wholesalers/fruit packaging plants, requiring all workers of relevant enterprises and their family members to take frequent rapid antigen tests, and every seven days. No less than 20% of workers are randomly screened, and CDCs at all levels are required to conduct spot checks. If the relevant enterprises discover the epidemic situation, they will be ordered to close for no more than three days.If it needs to be closed for more than the specified time, it must be reported to the governor, and the closure or other actions should be considered as appropriate according to the recommendations of the provincial disease control committee.
Alongkorn Pollabutr, advisor to Thailand's agriculture minister, said that although China has resumed imports of Thai durians on April 15, exporters still need to be vigilant.
He said that the peak fruit season in the eastern provinces is coming, when more than one million tons of durian, rambutan, mangosteen and other fruits will be harvested, exporters must ensure that their fruits are not contaminated by the virus.
Alongkorn pointed out that the export of durians from Chanthaburi will resume transportation using the Laos-China high-speed rail in the near future, so the Thai government and exporters must take measures to ensure the safety of the fruit.
